Managing Resistance of Justice-Involved Individuals

People in custody or on supervision often exhibit resistance. This course will help officers working with people in custody or on supervision identify resistance and employ strategies to help the people they supervise overcome resistance. Resistance is a natural reaction to change. People placed in custody or on supervision are often resistant to change for a variety of reasons. Part of your role as an institutional or community corrections officer is to help people overcome their resistance to change. This will improve their likelihood of success and reduce the likelihood of future justice system involvement. The goal of this course is to inform institutional and community corrections officers about resistance and how to help people in custody or on supervision overcome it.
