Practicing Telehealth with Children

The COVID-19 pandemic and associated social distancing requirements required many behavioral health professionals to pivot their service delivery approaches and shift to telehealth. As both professionals and clients learn of the many benefits of telehealth service delivery, it is likely that this approach to treatment will continue to be more commonplace long after resolution of the pandemic.

It is critical that you know how to modify your customary face-to-face treatment of youth so that you can deliver productive and effective telehealth sessions. In this course, you will learn about specific strategies and techniques you can use to maximize the effectiveness of telehealth sessions with children, including tips for modifying the telehealth setting, establishing rapport, and maintaining engagement. You will also learn best practices for navigating challenges that can arise when treating children via telehealth, such as confidentiality dilemmas, determining and managing safety risks, and attending to mandated reporter responsibilities.
